Scouting for Food 2023: Success
What a weekend!
At last count, Troop 2, other Hudson Scouts (including Pack 3104, Troop 77), and the Hudson PD collected over 8500 pounds of food for the Hudson Community Food Bank.
As Scout Bodie C. put it while sorting, "That's over four tons of food."
Yep. And, judging by the long lines at out local food bank, it comes at just the right time for many, many local families in need.
Of course, preparations for the big day started several weeks ago, and we thank everyone involved. But special thanks goes out to former Troop 2 Scoutmaster Chris Houle, who continues to work with the Hudson Community Food Bank in order to fill the shelves every November.
Meanwhile, if you really think about it, "Scouting for Food" encapsulates everything that Scouting is all about.
It is, perhaps, the most important event of each and every year and our Scouts continue to come through in big, big ways.
Troop 2, can do! Indeed.

Upcoming Events
This upcoming weekend is another big one.
First, on Saturday, November 11, we have the Veterans' Day Parade.
Scouts should be in full Class-A uniform; please start arriving at 9:40 AM and we line up at AMVETS (5 South Street, Hudson) at 9:45 AM and will step off at 10.
From there, we will join the other Scout groups in town to march down South St. to Houghton St. to Main St. to Town Hall. The ceremony will last around 30 - 40 minutes and should finish at approximately 11. Please Note: The ceremony location is always subject to change.
Additionally, if your Scout would like to march on behalf of a Veteran, be it family member or friend, they can make a flyer or a poster with the name of the veteran they are representing (living or deceased).
Following the parade, there will be an opportunity for conservation service hours with the Hudson Land Trust.
The Trust will host a clean-up event at Old North Street (conservation land and trail). Most Scouts need these hours for rank advancement.
There are two trails that need brush and over growth removal. Scouts just need rakes, snippers, and gloves. Remember to wear Class B uniform (under Class A for the parade), pack a snack, and bring appropriate weather footware and gear. Directions are here.
We could use 5-10 Scouts to join us.

Field Trip Fundraiser
Next summer, for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, several of our Scouts are working to fund a once-in-a-lifetime educational trip to learn about the World Wars while traveling with AMSA classmates in Europe.
Want to help with the expenses? That's easy.
The Caissie and Hermannn families will be selling crafts and wares at the upcoming Assabet Valley Regional High School Craft Fare. The flyer is below.

It's Wreath Season
Watch your mail and social media for information on this year's Wreath & Christmas Tree fundraiser.
As most of you know, each order supports the Scouts of Troop 2 (woo!) and subsidizes our program. Basically, customers purchase decorations (or tree disposal) and help our Scouts continue their careers (including community service , camping , and other outings.
While we don't expect Scouts to actively sell our items, we do hope everyone will spread the word to friends and family and be available for deliveries on November 26, and for tree disposal on January 7 and 13.
Be sure to ask a leader if you have any other questions, and spread the below flyer and links around.
BTW: It is INCREDIBLY important for everyone currently on social media — adults in particular — to be following, liking, and sharing the Troop 2 Facebook page. Our fundraisers and recruiting depend on this largely free advertising. Thanks for your help.

It's almost November, and Troop 2 remains in the midst of an amazing fall. With MassJam and Scout "O" in the rear view, Troop 2 now sets sight on food and fundraising.
On November 4, we'll look to fill the cupboards of the Hudson Community Food Pantry during Scouting for Food (8:45 AM distribution of routes at the church). Then on November 11, Troop 2 will lead the way at the Hudson Veterans' Day Parade, followed by a service project for the Hudson Land Trust at the Old North Trail. Times are (tentatively) 9:30 and 11:30 AM, respectively.
Upcoming service projects include helping with Pack 3104's upcoming Pack Meetings, Sing-n-Screen, and Pinewood Derby. Feed-A-Neighbor needs help at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Meanwhile the First United Methodist Church (our home) asked for some help with their outdoor food donation booth as well as their upcoming Community Events.
Finally, plans are already underway for our annual Wreath & Christmas Tree Pickup fundraiser!
